Pupils at St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School in Crook enjoyed an exciting day of science as classes across the school took part in a spectacular science showcase led by Thomas from the Royal Institution for Science.

The event brought science to life through a series of engaging demonstrations focusing on energy, movement and energy transfer. Children were captivated as they watched bubbles transform into fire, rockets launch through the air and a balloon helicopter take flight.

Class 1 thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the show. The flying rockets soared up and over the children’s heads, while one demonstration even caused a pupil’s hair to stand on end, much to the delight of the audience. Families were invited to join the session, helping to make the experience even more memorable for the children.

Class 2 loved both watching and taking part in the experiments. Through the demonstrations, pupils learned about energy and how it helps things move, gaining a deeper understanding of scientific concepts in a fun and interactive way.

In Class 3, pupils were fully engaged as they explored different energy sources and observed the impressive experiments being demonstrated. The children’s enthusiasm and curiosity were evident throughout the session as they watched science in action.

Class 4 spent the afternoon learning about energy transfer through a range of exciting demonstrations involving explosions, fire, sound and much more. Pupils were fascinated by the experiments and enjoyed seeing the science they learn about in the classroom brought vividly to life.

The school would like to thank all of the parents and family members who attended and shared the experience with the children. A special thank you also goes to Thomas from the Royal Institution for Science for delivering such an exciting, educational and inspiring showcase.

Events such as this help pupils develop a love of science by encouraging curiosity, investigation and hands-on learning, while showing just how exciting the world of STEM can be.
